PFLAG National

Founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation's largest family and ally organization uniting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) with families, friends, and allies.  PFLAG has over 350 chapters and 200,000 members and supporters crossing multiple generations of American families in major urban centers, small cities, and rural areas in all 50 states.  The PFLAG National website is full of information to support, educate, and inspire action.

PFLAG Council of Northern Illinois

PFLAG Council of Northern Illinois serves as the clearing house for the many chapters located in this area.  Information on their website includes chapter listings and information, resources and advocacy opportunities, a link to the monthly online newsletter, and more.

Youth Outlook

Youth Outlook is the only agency in the DuPage, Kane, and DeKalb counties of Illinois dedicated solely to serving LGBTQ youth. To accomplish this mission, they provide wellness education on a variety of topics, leadership development, and offer social space, as well as community education programs to change the social atmosphere that imperils LGBTQ youth, drop-in centers, a group for transgender youth, off-site recreational activities, and more.

Straight for Equality

Straight for Equality is a national outreach and education project created in 2007 by PFLAG National to empower new straight allies who, unlike a more traditional PFLAG member, don’t necessarily have a family connection to the gay community.

If you’re one of the roughly 8 in 10 people who can say, “I have a gay friend (or coworker, or acquaintance)” this is the place for you.

National Center For Transgender Equality

Founded in 2003, The National Center for Transgender Equality is a national social justice advocacy organization devoted to ending discrimination and violence against transgender people through education and advocacy on national issues of importance to transgender people. By empowering transgender people and allies to educate and influence policymakers and others, NCTE facilitates a strong and clear voice for transgender equality in our nation's capital and around the country.
